Dear God! $1500 for a dog? Does she make you coffee in the morning?!
Okay, I admit it, I'm cheap. I'm also a grad student, so I'm broke and I can think of hundreds of things I would do with 1500. And I am a total sucker for mutts. If you got a great dog and you can afford the upkeep, you can spend whatever you want on a dog. :)
Growing up most of the animals that came into our family wandered in through the door. Sometimes literally. When my parents finally decided to get another dog after our first (found on the side of the road) had passed away, they thought "let's get a real dog!" One with papers! One that we could show!! My mother got overly excited, did all kinds of research and they got... a basset hound.
Dumbest dog on four legs.
He's failed every known intelligence test and has been known to sit in the rain and howl and look miserable until you call him up onto the porch... at which point he gets so excited because YOU MADE IT STOP RAINING ON HIM! HALLELUJAH!!
They then proceeded to buy another dog (to keep this one happy) and they picked a dog with OCD. The third dog, to keep the second from chewing the first dog's ears off, has sever behavioral problems. So the third dog attacks the second dog who runs around bouncing off the electric fence while the basset hound sits in the rain, howling.
I think I'll stick to cats.
