Many prominent obesity researchers have ties to the International Obesity Task Force, which gets very large amounts of funding from drug companies. The task force in many respects just acts as a affluent drug-company funded lobbying group but presents itself as an organization of disinterested and independent scientists. Thr task force has enough money that it has a lot of influence and you can guess what points of view get encouraged. However, it's not a reportable conflict of interest. Sort of like the astroturf vs grass roots situation, but this time with scientists.
