Re: Is this a joke?
by SuperNovaStar

It's the worst kind of joke too. After reading the article I was wondering what was its purpose. I read some of the thesis and it seemed to me that Mrs. Obama was more concerned about the level of contribution made to black communities by Princeton's black alumni, a topic I have no doubt would have been very relevant at the time of writing. I am baffled at the way in which her views from a thesis written over 20 years ago could be morphed to smear her husband's bid for the White House. I am not even going to get into the way Hitchens completly dismisses the importance of figures like Stokley Carmichael by plucking them from the era that bread them and reducing them to depraved lunatics. I've been giving people in the media the benefit of the doubt when it came to vetting Obama, but this article has floored me. They can't pin the radical ideology of Farakahn, Wright on Obama. They can't point to anything in his political activities or even from his books which could put him in line with the ideology of radical black leaders of this generation or the previous. Their best bet is now to try their best to dig up some link from his wife's thesis from back in the day.

Obama's presence in this campaign is surely bringing out some of the best and worst in Americans. I just hope that people hold themselves up to the same high level of scrutiny after they seek to attack him and his family the way this article has.
