Then you agree with me. Hate Crime Statutes vary from place to place. You really have to reign in your romantic notions of "free speech" - speech is not so free. There are limits on plenty of kinds of speech: libel, conspiracy, uttering threats, incitement, treason and so on. Delusional hate-mongers like Wright hide behind racial and ethic generalizations like "white people" and "black people", in order to escape prosecution for crimes they would be quickly charged with if their words were directed at a single person rather than a group of people. In Wright's case, at the very least: libel, incitement, fraud and probably treason are applicable.

But what's more important is that Obama agrees with me. He is not as romantic about free speech as you are.
