tjcerveza:ID Should be a basic requirement.
In my State, ID must be shown to buy beer, even if you look like John McCain (meaning old). Yet, when I go to vote, no ID needed. I find that strange.
Who does not have identification, and why not. If you are so under the radar that you don't want or need ID, then what are you doing on the voter roles. Indiana even makes State Idenification cards free. The Supremes are correct on this one.
Many people don't bother with ID. If you don't drive, and don't drink, there aren't a whole lot of uses for ID. Many people with disabilities simply don't bother.
Also, note that this doesn't actually require ID to vote. It requires ID to vote in person. You could simply vote by absentee and never have an ID card, so what is this actually protecting?
If every state made ID cards free I would have fewer issues with this law, but they don't and now that the SC has ruled, many states might start requiring ID to vote. My ID costs me $40 every four years. That adds up if the only thing you use it for is voting.
