Generation Ego

Generation Ego:

As an Obama supporter I have been cringing every time I hear any media reference to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Wright is so utterly out of touch with modern reality that his recent comments are hardly worth repeating. It is hard to understand this mans motivation.
He has likened the recent criticism of his sermons to the crucifixion of Christ and an attack on all black people of faith. These comments are not only highly mellow dramatic but they also further reflect a generational divide that is being illustrated in this current election cycle. Wright's remarks represent yet another example of the egotism of the boomer generation. A generation that came of age in the peace, love, and dope summer of 67. They were supposed to do great thing but… Where are we now? The boomers are retiring and the rest of us will be left footing their bill. Boomer parents will be lounging in their rest homes while their economically challenged kids and grandkids struggle to solve the huge problems that their parents were supposed to fix… see health care, global climate change, a huge social security deficit and the overall diminishment of the US reputation abroad. Get your checkbooks out kids because you will be paying for grandpa’s cialis thanks to the prescription health care benefit that the great boomer leader Bush II signed into law. These are some of the really serious issues that we should be addressing instead of the media focusing on Rev.Wright’s, Bill Clintonesque attempts to sabotage the only candidate who represents real change. Boomers like Wright and the Clintons need to put aside their egos and accept the fact that their influence is waning as well it should be. Both Bill Clinton and Rev.Wright have intentionally and unnecessarily interjected the race card into this political season and have subsequently diminished their relevance. As for the Reverend, the media and the rest of us should be saying who cares about this clown. Obama should denounce him strongly and then we should move on to the policy stuff that really matters.
