Re: Why would Goldstein write such an article?
by Lulu41
I had the same reaction: what is B. Goldstein accomplishing by telling us that she faked her son's way into a college curriculum in which he really had no interest? It's not easy to grow up, but we can't do it for our children. My son dropped out of college at 20, lost several jobs until he learned to get to work on time, took a night course on his own and eventually realized that he needed to learn more. During that time he never moved back and I am glad because he learned to take responsibility for his own behavior. Of course, his father and I worried, went to visit occasionally and bought a week's worth of groceries, but basically he was on his own. Several years later he told me that there had been times when he was in between jobs and he was hungry, but had no money to buy food. That really affected me, but I'm still not sorry he had to learn that way.
