I was looking at the overall number of people who watched the Olympics. The numbers you are quoting the average number of people who watched each event, as far as I can tell.

The reason they protest the Olympics, besides, the broader coverage, is what I mentioned before. The Olympics are supposed to stand for something other than enjoyment of sports. Brotherhood, celebration of human dignity, and all of those other key phrases that can be found on the Olympic websites. I hear people talk about the "Olympic spirit" left, right, and center whenever the games are mentioned. I've never heard anything about a "Daytona 500 spirit." And. yes, the Olympics put a country in the international spotlight much more so than do, say, the NASCAR races.

So, no, that was not what I was going to say.

And do you really think that the Tibet protests would be so big if China were not hosting the Olympics this year?
