Better to keep our Iran ties secret
by GreenwichJ

Iran's president has changed his mind about 9/11. He used to accept it as the work of al-Qaida; but this week he turned around and sid it was a Jewish conspiracy.

Who's most pissed off about this? Israel?

Nope. The US? Nope. The answer's here.

We have been cooperating closely with Iran ever since 9/11. They helped us rebuild the Persian-speaking bit of Afghanistan; built a pipeline to southern Iraq; cut off the Taleban's drug money through Baluchistan; and are now eroding al-Qaida's major source of credibility, its claim to 9/11.

It's much better to keep this cooperation secret. If it was public it would enrage our other (Sunni) Muslim allies as well as the Jewish lobby in Washington. Pakistan would want to know why it was being edged out of Afghanistan in favour of Iran; the Saudis would demand to know why we were cosyign up to their arch-enemies; and we wouldn't be able to build that anti-Russian anti-missile system without admitting what it's really for.
