greensleeves:
You know what - my mother was married during WW2, in a gorgeous navy blue silk suit, very very classic, very very 1940s. And a fab little cocktail hat with veiling down to her nose. When I was little, I was mad because her wedding portrait did not have her in a poufy white meringue thing, like all my friends' mothers.
When I grew up, I realized she was the classiest, most elegant bride I have ever seen. Never laughed once. There ARE classic, snicker proof, non-boring outfits out there. Very much of their time, but also timeless.
Aww, I love this post! My grandpa was married in his Navy uniform and looked so so handsome. And I adore my parent's wedding photo with my dad's Buddy Holly glasses and my mom's classic Audrey Hepburn dress. What I think makes both photos so great is that they wore something that really showed who they were at the time, and didn't try to dress up as someone they weren't for a day.
