Wow, I am still reeling from this. When I heard Michelle Obama speak at a fund raiser in Chicago and she said she hopes that all Americas would be able to walk in another's man's shoes, well, maybe Barack and Michelle need to walk in someone else's shoes and not expect everyone else to walk in their shoes. My clients are labor unions and affiliated organizations. Whether you agree with them or not, these are folks who are fighting to keep living wage jobs in America. Many of these folks are also NRA supporters. I am a lawyer and there is usually an inherent distrust that must be overcome between the lawyers and the union business agents. I think the divide can be overcome, but it is not easy.
I think that Obama is the one who is afraid and angry. Afraid that he, and no one person, can stop the very difficult economic times that have hit the rust belt. There is a sense of powerlessness there and yet a realization that we will continue to move into a global economy whether we like it or not. But this is not the way to unite people and Obama is now the one who should be walking a thousand miles in someone else's shoes. It is ironic that Hillary would take this an opportunity to appear pro gun. Nothing is further from the truth. But this will play into McCain's hands big time. BTW, I did vote for Obama and I did canvass for him in Dayton. Even I am surprised at his short sidedness on this one.
