Cruel and unusual?
by Carlie01

The neglect this man suffered is unforgiveable, though I think it must be very rare. I worked at a medium security prison, and was incredulous at all the perks afforded the inmates. Health and dental care were better than I could afford. One man in my class had AIDS and revealed that to the rest of the class. The other inmates assumed he would be getting poor treatment, but the AIDS victim told them he was getting the latest treatments. These inmates had cable television, a wonderfully equipped band room, a jogging track, basketball, weight stations, a racket ball court complete with sprinklers in case they became overheated! There were horseshoes (amazing, since staff wasn't permitted anything in the yard that could be used as a weapon), and...of all things, croquet!!They even had keys to their cells so that when they weren't in them, their belongings were secure (cells could be locked down electronically if need be). Oh yes...and many had crock pots in their cells! Cruel and unusual? More like a boys' camp!!!
