Given the limited time I have to read fiction and non-fiction authors, I have always used book awards, particularly the Pulitzer, as a reason to give a book a try. I am rarely disappointed and very much appreciate the guidance.
A great book, as opposed to a good, mediocre, or poorly written book -- is like a Mozart piece or a Beatles' song, as opposed to an American Idol tryout. Wasting precious time on disappointing works is especially important in this day and age when choices are mind boggling and far too numerous.
I don't care about the Golden Globes, but I do care about the Pulitzers.
