A few additional things to note:

1) Some Bosnians, including the now 20 year old woman who read the poem to Hillary, have reacted fairly unfavorably to the story.

2) A rather remarkable irony: According to Samantha Power in her book A Problem From Hell (written in 2002) Bob Dole had been a long time advocate of intervention in Bosnia, and when Clinton needed support against Republican opposition, it was none other than John McCain who joined Dole to stand against them to support Clinton's NATO bombings of the Serbs.

A note about Hitchens on the second: The book also mentions that, once the aggression had turned to the Kosovar Albanians, Hitchens received a letter from a friend; informing him that the Yugoslav army was using refrigerated trucks to transport Albanian corpses to hide them from NATO. Hitchens disregarded this as "weird and fanciful." Unfortunately for Hitchens's friend, not to mention the Albanians, this turned out to be true.
