The extraordinary film "Shake Hands With the Devil " details the failed UN peacekeeping mission to Rwanda. The voice of General Dallaire is haunting. There are two scenes that deal directly with the Clinton Administration's failure. One is when then Ambassador Albright, on order from Washington,votes against reinforcing the peace-keeping mission. This vote, in effect, consigned 800,000 to death. The second vivid image is of President Clinton and Hilary visiting Rwanda. The President tells his audience that he was caught by surprise and did not fully comprehend what was happening during those 100 days of slaughter. The more truthful answer is that after Somalia, Africa and its people were not worth any risk. One may well ask Senator Clinton about her stop in Rwanda. Also, it would be of interest to know whether as Commander in Chief she would send U.S. on a humanitarian mission. I would like to know how many meetings (or briefings) President Clinton had on Rwanda while the genocide was unfolding. His claim of not knowing is insulting.
