The David Cook controversy made me realized that I need someone to explain how contestant songs are arranged and who is arranging them. Up until now, I always thought contestants were taking existing arrangments and tweaking them to suit their voice and their styles. The most arranging I thought any contestant engaged in was editing a song down to fit the time requirement.

The one thing I am taking away from this controversy is that Cook must be doing something different and smart because musicians I'm not familiar with and who I would not expect to watch Idol are coming out of the Idol-watchers closet.
