I think that it's important to distinguish terms like "younger generation" and "young people" from references to a specific generation.
Ageism is detrimental on both extremes of the workforce: the neophytes and the older generation are faced with undue challenges in the workplace. If you're over fifty, you face an incredibly difficult time even being considered for job interviews due to your age, let alone earning respect and holding onto your position.
In fact, the canadian charter of rights and freedoms explicitly condemns discrimination based on age (along with sex, race, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, etc). It doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but if someone suspected they were discriminated against due to their age, they could file a human rights complaint.
