So being an American citizen doesn't get you much?
by curveball
So I guess this means that if you're unfortunate enough to be an American citizen in a foreign country a.k.a Iraq, you're bascially screwed and no better than those pesky insurgents who keep blowing up things. Let me see, if I have my passport and birth certificate that states that I was stupid enough to be born here, then I automatically wave my rights as a citizen once I cross the Atlantic is that right? So what's so great about having citizenship then if the president can decide all by his lonesome that you're an enemy combatant and that means he can strip any rights you may have had as an american? Even worse for someone who has middle eastern ties or was born in say, Iran or Jordan? So what's the good of having Habeus Corpus if the yahoos in their little black robes at the Supreme Court refuse to honor it and are basically rewriting the constitution and every single law on the books that are supposed to protect citizens like you and me? As a lesson to us "citizens", I better not go to Mexico either. Heaven forbid I end up in a Mexican jail, my government will let me rot just for the sake of not offending our tortilla eating friends!
