Dickerson's thesis holds a little water only until you realize that Hillary is mathematically eliminated from this campaign. She can't possibly pass Obama's delegate or vote totals. So at this point, ANY attack by the Clinton campaign on Obama is gratuitous and corrosive. Overreactions by Obama's surrogates in this light are understandable, because she is no longer a credible candidate. At this point, she is no more than a traitor to her party. Had she dropped out after losing the Potomac primaries, she could now be Obama's running mate, or his SecDef, or whatever she wanted. But her ten years of planning notwithstanding, she cannot be president, at least in 2009. If, however, she fatally damages Obama's candidacy, maybe she can run again four years hence. That thought should frighten us all.
