Thanks Sandy. People are going to believe whatever reinforces their pre-conceptions and the news media is too lazy to really find out the context of what is said. This applies to both "liberal" and "conservative". What was brilliant about Obama's speech is that he rationally analyzed black and white feelings and put them in historical context; then he challenged us as a nation, and as a people, to do something about our history and the way we interact with each other. I just retired as a college dean and it astonishes me to see the difference today between my generation, that of my very liberal mother, and the students of my children's generation. The new generation has a very different view of race. They intermarry, interplay and interwork. For them race is just not an issue any more and therein lies our hope.
