dbuck:Tim,
After Schroeder's weep-out (I was then her majordomo), I started a lachrymose file, news clips from hither and yon of celebrities tearing up. Who cries more, I soon found out? -- athletes. They cry when they win; they cry when they lose. They cry when they're hired and cry when they're fired, and they weep rivers when they retire. Getting an award, being inducted into some hall of fame, no matter what the occasion, water flows.
Athletes -- and I'm talking male athletes largely -- cry more than any other occupational group.
In reality, people in competitive occupations, which certainly includes athletes and politicians, have good reason to get emotional. Nothing to be ashamed over.

Ah, but here's the important difference.
How much respect would an athlete get if he cried *during* the game? If he bawled after dropping a pass, missing a foul shot, ect.? His team mates would hate his guts, tell him to shut the hell up, and stop being a wuss.
Look at all the grief Terell Owens got because of his in-game hissy fits, for instance.
