Re: even better conversational jujitsu (real lawyer here)

Sarcasm, anyone? Can't get/appreciate a joke? OMG!

The problem with OJ is that, arguably, his defense violated as many ethical rules as the police. The whole trial was a sham of justice up one side and down the other, and shouldn't be used as any kind of representative for the typical operation of the system (which is, indeed, mired in a host of problems).

Otherwise, Kimmitt has the right idea here. In an adversarial system, asking "Why do we need public defenders?" is the same as asking, "Why do we need police?"

dumb blonde, i found your username to be eponysterical. i look to my old college for nothing more than its annual solicitation...

what's that? oh, you meant "colleague". not the same word. my colleagues who are also my friends will recuse themselves per the rules of ethics, and yes, i trust in my colleagues who are not my friends to mount the most aggressive, ingenious defense of which they are capable.

somebody is going to rape my gold medal? oh, you meant that they are going to rape me. your sentence structure needs a little work. uno) my username, which was selected during the caroline-kennedy-for-senate debacle notwithstanding, i am not female, and i have grave doubt that a gay rapist could, uh, physically consummate the act you propose unless he either possessed very poor eyesight or else was wearing several layers of beer goggles, and dos) i have a well-secured, eminently defensible perimeter and the second amendment is a whole lot more than just a constitutional abstraction in my household, it's a way of life.

the oj case: i blame two people for the result, marcia clark and lance ito. i had vowed never to read a book about this case, but in a moment of weakness, i relented and read marcia clark's book, and my reaction can be summarized in the four letters omfg. her book abundantly reveals that she had no business prosecuting a serious felony. judge ito was a disgrace to the bench, and even his selection is under a cloud (if you believe that not one, but two consecutive japanese-american judges were randomly selected to hear oj's criminal and civil cases, i would like to sell you stock in my perpetual motion machine). at least the second judge, hiroshi fujisake, did a stand-up job.

MessyONE:
I still can't figure out if they're doing it on purpose or are too dumb to have a sense of humor.

I gave up a few threads ago, Messy. The glimpse into the American legal mind is making me revise our trip plans to Scottsdale. I'll have to be good.

Here's something I read in the Village Voice a hundred years ago in NY in the Village Voice attibuted to Jerzy Kosinski, " To be without humor is to be without intelligence."

Such language is entirely unnecessary. If you are trying to impress us with your vocabulary, try to stick to real words. I googled it and could only find a definition in the urban dictionary. Dictionary.com pretty much told me to piss off, and I think it even snorted a little.

OJ got off because he had a largely black jury that wanted to stick it ot the man, and were already pissed off because Mark Fuhrman said the "n" word. Plus of course the glove didn't fit and therefore they were obligated to acquit. Nevermind the fact that the glove was shrunken because it was saturated in blood.....one cannot deny the authority of a slogan that rhymes, even when scientifically it makes no sense.

Happy 4th!

I was crapping all over pollyanna and her ilk. The OP gave a witty response that was unappreciated by those who lack that virtue. I hope the OP sticks around.... we need another needle in the eye of hypocrisy.

I think i have as much if not more of a sense of humour than anyone else here and what "Suite"Caroline's posts demonstrated was merely the desire to impress and show-off above any other qualities, hence his ham-fisted and inarticulate attempt to belittle DB. He's not funny and he's probably as well-acquainted with ethical considerations as a 10th Ave cocksucker.

I liked him better as a girl.

Good opening post, though.

unless you can come up with a shorter word than "eponysterical" which means exactly the same thing, your objection is overruled. i occasionally make up new words, and there can be big money in this when they're formed into url's, as i have discovered.

tarquin machismo, natural comics never brag about their sense of humor, and they go light on the obscene epithets, but answer me one thing: 10th avenue *where*?

quietwife, i can put on a dress if you like.

i have a guest over now, so i'm not sure if i'll be allowed to return this afternoon.

If we're just making up words, then any random collection of letters that includes a vowel and has less than 13 letters will suffice.

From someone who cannot figure out capital letters. Kettle meet pot.

What he said. I recognized the satire, but didn't find it funny, so I decided to respond in satire back to try and salvage something?

I guess I lack intelligence. :/

OJ got off...
by intersurfa

....because the proscecution was as incompetent as this suite caroline ego tripper.

creating reasonable doubt is all the defense had to do. they did it. the proscecution didn't put an eyewitness on the stand that could have placed OJ near the scene of the crime, and removed reasonable doubt.. why? because she had less then a sterling reputation. The proscecution tart and her token side kick had about as much depth as this suite caroline lawyer, who thinks it's all about a popularity contest.

catching a rapist on video is a quid pro quo, and a lawyer should not get the perp off because of a technicality. justice does involve ehtics.

as far as a sense of humor goes, i haven't seen suite use it. tarqui seems to have a monopoly on that supply.

Like Messy I thought the OP gave a perfectly good response. Some people prefer to be witty in order to keep things nice and others prefer to shock the living hell out of rude people and move on. It's safe to say however that the OP might have trouble fitting here...or anywhere for that matter.

I remember a while back when Prudy got a letter from someone asking for a response to those annoying people that yelled out "SMILE!" to anyone they thought was scowling. There were plenty of shocking responses given by people here on the Fray, even from the regulars and they were all applauded.

The only two differences here I believe is that the OP is new and that his response was a bit more crude than the people here are used to. It could also be that the fraysters recognized his arrogance. Something that became apparent to me in his subsequent posts.

I think everybody here handled this thread very badly. Maybe we can start over?

Just thought I'd give my opinion.
