If there's anything that has surprised me about this Sanford case (besides his romanticism) is the fact that we have heard nothing about how his lover felt about all this - or how she feels about him trying to reconcile with his family. I expect there may be a lot of pain here to go around. I remember something George Will said about the way sex education is taught in America. The biology may be adequately described but not the fact that it can tear people up inside and sometimes destroy them. It really isn't just like shaking hands.
