Ilizarov proceedure
by jhdaniel

Gavriil Ilizarov developed this process over 50 years ago, in an attempt to assist in healing broken bones. It is used, more commonly, to correct bone length in congenital defects, to regularize gait and prevent joint injury.

My wife can walk today because of this procedure. After crushing her ankle in a fall, the initial surgical reconstruction left her with a right leg 3/4" shorter than her left. Six months and this procedure, done in Texas, gave her back her normal gait.

Why would we wish to regulate what many would view as a miracle?
