Yeah, I didn't even know who Willow was prior to this controversy (aside from the hot redhead on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the eponymous dwarf in that bad George Lucas movie).
In my opinion . . .

. . . the only circumstances under which ANY joke should have a consequence is if it fails to be funny (which would be hard to establish, given the subjective nature of comedy). I agree, in other words, that the examples are equivalent.

I'm not sure Imus was making a joke, but I don't think he should have been fired.

In fact, I don't think he was actually fired for the comment, but it was a convenient excuse.

As to the question of whether NOW et. al. are hypocrites, I don't know whether they called for Imus to be fired, so I can't tell. I know that they did condemn Letterman for the comments, but did not call for him to be fired.

I think what ties both cases together . . .

. . . is that they're mere speech.

I suppose a private organization can fire whomever it sees fit to fire. For me, though, this sort of outrage is tiresome.

Of course, I only fuel it by dignifying it with response, so my hands aren't exactly clean.

Gatewood, those goalposts look heavy. Need help moving them some more?
Feminists do NOT defend all women
by cassandra

Feminists support people who are advancing women's interests. And as for Obama's daughters...it would be pretty hard to get them pregnant at their age, so "knocked up" jokes would be pointless.
