Twitter is So NOT the Future
by Guylinder
Leave it to the GOP to get that completely wrong. Twitter is the Internet's macarena. By the time they figure it out, it's going to be over.

My read exactly. a lame fad but one that may drag the technologically backward into the modern era. I dont think the people at issue are young republicans. I assume that they are as technologically adept as colleg dems. Its old people who need to embrace technology which will define the politics of the future.

I think that the fact that they are grabbing on to one specific tech idea - whether it is a fad or not - illustrates the general problem. They are not going to solve their problem by using Twitter, or Facebook, or whatever - these things are just tools to accomplish an end, not the end in themselves.

"Twitter is the Internet's macarena."

So True Guy!

Though it's certainly early, I don't see the conservative movement ever successfully using the internet / tech the same way the dems (and Obama specifically) were able to do so last fall. People talk about the democratizing power of the internet, and I think there's an overwhelming populist appeal to attacking the issues through social networks, listservs, e-mail, etc, that plays far better to democrats ideals than republicans.

Why so? Conservatives have been doing better as "populists" for quite some time. You can not explain the conservative movement's success in the last 15 years without talking about its populist appeal.

The only thing about Obama is that he was a rock star in a world of Bush fatigue. There's nothing really special about the democratic party or its technological saavy.
