The most interesting man in the world annoys me to no end

Actually, I was going to write he annoys the hell out of me, but it wouldn't fit in the title box.

There's an underlying smugness about this ad campaign that annoys me. I'm not sure how to explain it, not even sure if I understand it. But it's something to do with the implication that this dude is actually interesting, that occasionaly drinking beer, Dos Equies perferred that is, makes you somehow aloof and above the rest of us, you know, the uninteresting people.

Personal cavaet, I have major issues with modern marketing techniques as it is. I hate modern marketing. I put it at the top of my list of things that have made the world suck that much more. Whereas life used to be politics and all politics used to be local, now, today, life is markteing, and all marketing is targeted.

This one is just targeted a little more broadly, to appeal to all our senses of inate superiority. If only people would pay attention to us.

The campaign itself is impressive, technically. Socialy, it's depressing as hell.

"Personal cavaet, I have major issues with modern marketing techniques as it is."

I don't think what you are talking about is a modern marketing technique. Instead, it's an ancient technique. They've been selling Prince Albert in a can for a long, long time, after all; and what could possibly be more aloof than that? There were upscale brands of those little clay lamps in Ancient Rome--they looked just like the kind the normal people used, but it was a prestige thing. You could joke that celebrities had to be invented simply so they could help sell stuff to the rest of us.

you are correct. i don't get the guys whining about marketing. does he think people are so stupid as to believe that crap? and even if they did, what business is it of his?

he's just a frustrated little control freak.

I think this is a GREAT commercial.I swear it is a re-release. I swear I remember seeing this commercial years ago (20 or so). I find it refreshing fom today's mind numbing bimbos running around half naked selling beer.Is that Leonard Nimoy's voice?? I found it a refreshing change !!

Opus12, I could not agree more. 'Underlying smugness' really captures it. I swear if I met this guy at a club I would not hesitate to go up to his table and tell him he's a complete fuc#ing cu#t. The two-party system wasn't bad. But the follow up was excruciating. It's bad enough this guy's a di#k. But to come back with "I'll let you figure out the place for yourself" is neither funny nor clever. I think the positive comments on YouTube must be coming from Euro RSCG or people with double-digit IQs.

By the way, do you remember Tanqueray's Mr. Jenkins? Jenkins would drop this guy in an instant. Jenkins had class. He was old school. You know what else? I still drink Tanqueray because of those ads. And that's precisely why I will STOP drinking Dos Equis.

Thank you, dear reader, for considering my views.

If he were the most interesting man in the world, he would drink craft beer. Dogfish, Clipper City, Sierra Nevada, something like that. Wouldn't you be the most boring man in the world if you always drank the same thing? Maybe it's supposed to be interesting that such a cool guy has such bad taste in beer. It's a silly discussion though isn't it? A bit like wondering if John Madden ever analyzed the Bud Bowl plays from years past. You look for entertainment, and you get it, at least they aren't beating you over the head with use our showergel-litebeer-allergymedicine, and you'll get laid by a super model.

i doubt if the most interesting man in the world would hang around any club you went to.

You cant take a homeless man and put him in a suit and call him the most interesting man in the world. The essential problem with this add campaign is the character is unbelievable. People are sheep but they are not stupid sheep.

It strikes me that there are SOME beer-drinkers of the less discriminating, not so academically-minded sort--think Homer Simpson, think Gunslinger, think Opus 12, think Goldfilter, think those fat apes from Oklahoma or Dallas who just buy 12 or 18 packs of ANYTHING just cause their climate is so damn hot, who are offended that this commercial dares to say that a beer-drinker can actually be 'cool.' How DARE Dos Equis say THAT!

You guys listen to Irving here--he's got a sense of humor about these things. I feel like Elaine in that Seinfeld episode: 'SMART people like this commerical.' and er, mccartc: Dos Equis is a MUCH better beer than Sierra Nevada. The 'most interesting man in the world' doesn't wear dockers and Izod shirts...

slim. you know what kills me is these dipshits who are offended and say the ad will make some people feel inadequate somehow are probably brain dead liberals who laugh at anyone who insinuates that stupid hollywood movies and dumb TV shows are not turning kids minds to mush.

it's because they are anti capitalist jihadists.
