Gleefulness
by instructor
Well, I skipped Idol but did catch the preview of Glee, and was semi impressed. It has a totally dark outlook on high school social dynamics as being a caste system more rigid than that of India, with the teachers in full support. The comedy portions need more tuning, and the teacher hero needs more steel. However, the musical scenes were electifying! The High School Musical version of Amy Winehouses "Go to Rehab" was completely unexpected, and the final number was amazing. For that alone will look forward to the autumn's return.

"Go to Rehab" would have been completely unexpected, except that it was the subject of extensive pre-show interviews. But it was still hilarious.

The show was excellent, over the top in the right places, but subtle in others.

Two favorite details: the double entendre of the glee club's name, "New Directions"; and the cheer coach's battery-powered mixing cup for her power sports drinks. (Jane Lynch semi-reprises her role from "Role Models," and, well, just about every other role she's done.)

What, h.s. is not a caste system?! A rigid, cold, dog eat dog atmosphere, underpinned with a large untouchable class?! Get Real!! Where are you?! Of course this is direct result of copying the educational morons who teach them. Oh, do I sound bitter? It is not because I am not personally involved, and one of those morons.
