Re: Why do the Hillary lovers hate Obama?
by female_engineer

"Enjoy your tea party with Harriet Christian and Geraldine Ferraro! And by tea party, I mean week-long Crown royal binge complaining about how luck Barack Obama is to have been born a black male."

That's not disagreeing with me, that is insulting me. If you consider that remark to be constructive criticism you are a dimwit (that is an intended insult).

Good-bye. You can have the last word. I am done with this.

IMO - the drunk racist implication was pretty bad - kind of dilutes your stated position.

Why don't you back down, our candidate won! We have a lot of work to do, spitting on family is not productive.

We gave you constructive criticism, and your response was to rant about your ivy league degree in all caps. I don't know, the image of you knocking a few back with bigots like Harriet "g*d d**n the democrats" Christian and Geraldine Ferraro seemed quite plausible, and if you weren't going to be reasonable then why shouldn't we have a little fun with you?And if you're done here, I'm sure Salon would give you a writing gig.

Valmont1782 -- are you sure you haven't been hitting the crown royale? I went back through this thread and can't find the all caps nasty rant to which you refer.

Some of what I've ready here though does make me wonder about a new phenomenon -- the bitter winner! While many have commented on Obama's grace as both winner and loser, few would say the same about the supporters who populate the Fray.

Many of us Hillary supporters are looking for reasons TO support Obama (please forgive the all caps...). Please help us find them, don't drive deeper wedges between us all.

Somebody who thinks Obama is "an empty suit" who beat Hillary because he is "smooth," is not family, and her remarks in her original post make the link between her and Geraldine Ferraro and the Harriet Christians of the world quite clear. Challenging prejudice is always productive.

I knew I read that Crown Royal insult elsewhere. Do you have multiple identities or do you just plagarize? From Salon's War Room:

Memo to Joan Walsh

When you find yourself agreeing with Pat Buchanan, that's a sign that you're full of sh*t.

Bye Bye Hillary! Have fun knocking back Crown Royals with Geraldine Ferraro!!

I'm an Obama supporter. Glad it's finally over and he won.

But I had a sad conversation today.

Woman I see every day, runs a bakery, early 60s, Hillary's perfect demographic. Retired nurse. Don't know about you but I'm crazy about nurses - always calm, centered, nothing they can't handle. Good thing because her husband's in early stage Alzheimers.

Anyway, she's a terrific person although nominally a Republican - we established that much before we stopped talking politics. She's really down this morning. Usually relaxed and cheerful, today she's edgy and glum. I thought it was her husband.

No, it was Hillary losing. She said she was absolutely crushed - who can I vote for? I said Obama - his policies are pretty much identical. She said no, she can't vote for Obama. I said so it wasn't Hillary's policies after all? She said yes, and I know McCain isn't an option, but I can't vote for Obama.

See, I think it was really my friend on stage last night giving that speech, torn up inside but soldiering on. I think a lot of great women think they lost.

Thanks mikestand.

My mother, godmother and aunts (all 80+ and also nominal Republicans) are in mourning too. Clinton's candidacy meant a lot to them.

It makes me sad that so many progressives seem content to ridicule and denounce these women for having the "audacity to hope" for Clinton to become the first female president. Most of these women will not live to see a woman win.

Why shouldn't they have cheered her on? They earned the right to support their candidate of choice. They weren't "delusional", they liked her Health Care proposal and her fighting spirit. (They like Elizabeth Edwards too, John Edwards not so much.)

These ladies held the U.S. together during WWII (i.e. Rosie the Riveter) but didn't get a lot of respect in the worlds of business or politics....

@nj gal:

I do indeed have multiple identities on the internet. I never plagiarize, especially when I'm using brass knuckles. I can't believe I'm the only one to use that line though; Hillary's attempt to seem like one of the people was to hilarious to miss.

And while my line might be a little rough, the idea that Hillary was the "smart one" and Barack Obama was the "pretty boy" or an "inadequate black male" is either sexist or racist, or both. The Joan Walshs, Harriet Christians, and Geraldine Ferraros of the world are not to be appeased.

female_engineer- How would you, or how do you think other female Hillary supporters would feel if Obama were to select a qualified woman (other than Hillary) for VP? Just curious.............

I'd write in Hillary's name on the ballot. That's what every disgruntled Hillary supporter should do. Do not vote for Obama. He's the nexus of domestic terrorism and foreign terrorism: trace back the bundled donations. Where did he get so much money? Do not vote for Obama. Vote for Hillary. Write in her name.

Christina - Can't answer for female_engineer, I think she left discussion.

But in my opinion, Hillary Clinton is a special case for these women. They saw her stand up and fight, even when the odds were stacked against her. There is an empathy there that another woman won't have time to develop. These ladies think they know something important about Clinton. Another woman coming in now would be tainted with the charge of tokenism. Personallly, I really like Olympia Snowe, too bad she is a Republican.

I think Obama needs someone to shore up his weak international and security credentials....don't know many Democratic women who fit that bill and are well known by the general public. I'd pick a retired general, maybe Wes Clarke.

In 2004 we were stuck with Kerry. Nobody liked him as a canidate. 99% of Kerry votes were not pro Kerry but anti Bush.

Why are these Hillary supporters not at least thinking along those lines? Do they want to see more dead Americans in Iraq? Do they want to see abortion outlawed?

In truth, I think the media is trying to create this false illusion to help get McCain elected. I'm not buying it.

These are all understandable reasons. But, what I think steams a lot of Obama supporters is the fact that Hillary constantly derided them as being delusional, and Obama as being "elitist" and inexperienced. When in fact, she embodies those adjectives so much more than him, and her supporters demonstrate the same "cultish" enthusiasm for her that they levy against Obama supporters.

Somehow Clinton has convinced so many people that she has all of this viable toughness and experience, except her record points to the contrary. She's the underdog? She had a double-digit lead at the outset and the media was calling it her coronation. She fought the dirty campaign, but Obama's the sexist.

It's the double-speak and the "up-is-down" that frustrates so many.

Theres a large sub-set of voters you are forgetting.

I'm a Hillary supporter because I don't like Obama. I'm not a Hillary lover, I'm an Obama disliker.

Of course I'm a McCain hater, so Obama still gets my vote.

I would wager that a lot of the Hillary "love" is merely the attachment of people who found a more tolerable candidate and are convincing themselves that she's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm not deluded into thinking Hillary is god's gift to the presidency, but I'd take her over Obama in a heartbeat.

And just my 2 cents, I don't think these Obama "haters" are so McCain "neutral". I'm really not concerned about Clintonites voting McCain... sane people will get over it. I'm VASTLY more concerned with Clintonites staying home costing us the election.
