Re: Obama.

[Obama could become our Gorby in terms of race and quality of political discourse.]

Ummm . . . "Gorby" presided over the collapse of the Soviet Union. Are you really sure you want to compare Obama to him?

People like you who get their information from Seann Hannity should know who Seann Hannity of Fox news really is. He is a hatemonger, a racist, an anti-jew, a woman hater and low life piece of scum. Click on the following link to know more about who is Seann Hannity of Fox news.

It was a stretch in that regard.

Of course, I did not mean to say we need a revolution. However, my point was about old guard and new guard being agents of real change, not just superficial tinkering. I do believe Obama could be an incredible agent of change for us. My generation is tired, we now only want power and money. Its time for new ideas and some idealism to replace our cynicism. We are still fighting the Vietnam War internally, some think we blew it by leaving, some think we blew it by staying.

I think you meant to reply to somebody else. I'm an Obama supporter who thinks Hannity is a dick.

What changes, exactly, would you like to see? And are they changes that government can enact?

I mean, I too would love to see more societal harmony, racial or otherwise. But there are limits to what the government can do.

I just wish that Senator Obama had dropped in the parts about Michelle Obama's cloth coat, and the little dog, Checkers.
This is a start.

1. Stop the partisan divisiveness by eschewing ideology. That means he must be seen as a leader who can listen to both sides and bring them to a place that can create a sense of belonging to each other collectively, not as groups or creeds. This is what he is talking about. Of course he cannot do it through legislation, these are things that require the bully pulpit, articulation, action and follow up. Most of all, it requires a sense of wanting it to be better, whatever "it" becomes. Isn't this what the message of Christ was when all was said and done? Obama is not Christ but his outlook is not one that says, "I am a Democrat and we have all the solutions, lets ram them down those crazy conservatives throats". If I did not believe this was his real agenda, i would not support the man. Sure, I could be wrong but what exactly is the alternative? Why choose another viewpoint when one so full of the very essence of America's strength is sitting right in front of you? Do we not believe in ourselves? Are we just the white players and the black players on a chess board? White goes first as you know.....

That sounds very nice. But I have a challenge for you. Can you name even one policy issue where Obama strays even slightly from doctrinaire liberalism?

I mean, he talks a good game about "bringing people together," but when you look at all his actual proposals, I don't think there's anything new.

It sure seems to me that what he's proposing is bringing people together under the welfare state.

can you say government subsidies?

i thought you republicans were all about government handouts! that's why the oil companies love you so!

If you think he is not a Democrat

then you must be confusing him with Hillary or Joe Lieberman. He will move us to the left but I think he will be able to see conservatives on it just as Reagan did the same thing with liberals in 1980.

Woolley:

I watched this speech today and it brought tears to my eyes. This man is a Godsend, we are fools not to elect a person of this character and ability. This reminds me of the fall of the former Soviet Union. At the end, they kept picking older Politburo types who seem to keep dying one after another. Then, Gorbachev was chosen and the rest is history. Obama could become our Gorby in terms of race and quality of political discourse. Hillary and McCain are the old guard. If we pick one of them over Obama, we are really saying that we do not want to move beyond the past, we want to wallow in all that we lived through these last 50 years. We will say to our children, you fix it, we give up. If we elect him, we make a statement that we can start realizing what we all thought was possible NOW, beginning today. The cynicism that has overcome the baby boomers is crippling our nation and our ability to deal with the issues. We need rejuvenation, we need cleansing, we need honesty, we need to remind everyone that first we are Americans.

This man is a giant already and he is just a young man. It will say much about us if we destroy him because we cannot give up our anger, hate and divisiveness.

Wow. OK, I admit it, some of you lefties are starting to scare me a little. lol

Its been a while since I saw you roaming around here. I really did feel for just a day that this guy could move all of us in ways we only dreamed of back when I was a kid. Make it my RFK fix but Obama will be President one day, I can feel it. I do think that this time may be just too much for our country to handle, its a damn shame.
