I'll be there! Anyway, yeah, I'm pretty sure the series debuted in 2006. But a little did go a long way, no question. Did anyone read it all, all the way through? Only a glutton for punishment or someone equally obsessive would've, I reckon.
The reason I remember the gorilla / robot bride stuff is because, despite the fact that Patrick was instantly (and understandably) pilloried for venturing (even further) into the realm of the absurd, it was one of few times in that whole self-indulgent mess that I thought he made a valid and interesting point. Namely that the logic of divorcing the institution of marriage from the ability to procreate (which divorce I support, lest anyone be in doubt) inexorably leads us toward permitting extra-species marriage, should sufficiently sentient and sapient beings be created or encountered at some point in the future.
Of course he presented it as a prima facie reason to disallow same-sex marriage, so all of the mockery wasn't wholly undeserved.
Cheers.
