Labeler!
by Urquhart

Oh, absolutely. I've never considered Mofo as a rock-ribbed conservative. Me, I'm an economic conservative, a foreign policy hawk, and a social moderate. Well, I mean, I'm OK with gay marriage and drug legalization, but my instincts are vaguely pro-family and religious.

But the GOP has a lot to offer libertarians. Mainly, not screwing with them as much as Democrats. Which is good.

Re: South Park Conservatives
by Pogue Mahone
Why must you choose a party to vote for? If you choose candidates based on their positions on the issues, chances are they will act as a vote against the party you're opposed to's agenda, even if they do not help the party you deem to be the lesser of two evils' majority. NY-23 is a good example of that in action. The republican in the race supported card check and cap-n-trade, for Pete's sake! And she had the support of ACORN! Voting the party in that race would have meant voting against your own agenda.
Killing babies: wrong
by anxious_mofo
Killing embryos: not wrong. We can just agree to disagree on that one, as I'm fairly certain we're not changing each other's minds.

I'm not calling Dubai, nor am I smoking doobies (the last one I smoked was in nineteen ninety mumble, where "mumble" is some number less than five). For that matter, I don't own a gun, either. But liberty is liberty, whether my exercise of it is directly affected or not.
But you must choose a party for whom to vote. I'm thinking you're basically Libertarian. And the biggest threat to liberty at present lies in one party alone. Which should be opposed, as it controls the country.
In 2008, my vote punished the Republicans for a lack of fiscal discipline, for a stupid war, and for generally being douchebags. In 2010 and again in 2012, my vote will punish the Democrats for a lack of fiscal discipline, for continuing a stupid war, and for generally being douchebags. I'd like to see the social conservatives and hawks out of the GOP, but it's extremely unlikely to happen. So I'll probably continue just voting against whoever happens to be in power, because whoever it is is likely to piss me off.

I'm liberal with a lowercase 'l'. That's not completely accurate, but it's less of a mouthful than "fiscally moderate-to-conservative, pro-free-market-and-free-trade, way to the left on social issues and civil rights, pro-gun, and non-interventionist in foreign policy".
William F Buckley
by Urquhart

once said "you should back the most conservative candidate who can win". Which is brilliant and succinct. Especially since all of his candidates would get my support, too.

I may have misspoken. To revise and extend my remarks, you are usually given two realistic choices in any race. And you either have to choose, or not vote. And if you don't vote, you can't complain.

I'm mostly the same, except I'm pro-abortion. If the state can wage war and use capital punishment than it can sanction the killing of the unborn. Besides, even though I am a fiscal conservative, I am also realistic enough to know we don't have a fiscally conservative economy right now. You can't have an entitlement based economy and not allow abortion.....it's too expensive. We owe all those unwanted kids 3 hots and a cot, and their mothers too. I'd get into more detail but I'd be hijacking the thread if I did.

Oh and I'm also softening up a bit on my hawkish foreign policy. Keeping to ourselves and flexing our nukes every once in a while might be the way to go nowadays.

Almost rabidly fiscally conservative though. If only one of the major parties agreed with me!

The Pissed Off Party
by Urquhart

I'm not convinced that voting against whoever is in office is particularly effective.

Sounds kind of like the MacG strategery of intervening on both sides.

There may will be a bunch of pissed-off party voters today. I'm guessing they punch the R button.

As you should. Not forever, just for now. Do you have any elections? I don't.

Re: William F Buckley
by Pogue Mahone

I used to agree with that position but the republicans have screwed me over one too many times. There is an alternative to either voting one of the major parties or staying home. The write in candidate. I've voted for myself before.....and Anna Kournikova. It's as close as you can get to the "none of the above" vote, which is not the same as not voting, in my opinion.

I understand if you disagree....back in 2004 I used to give alot of crap to people who said what I am saying now.

Dating Anna Kournikova
by Urquhart

is really nice. She can touch under her chin with her tongue. Go ahead, try it. Can't do it, can you?. Of course you can't. But Anna Kournikova can do it. Because she's Swedish. And really fun to date.

Despite this, a vote for Anna Kournikova is a vote for Nancy Pelosi.

Re: Jon Stewart Music, Too!

funny you should mention Jon Stewart. Several ladies from the fray are going to his show on Thursday night, and will be in the audience so look for us! (I'll wave & will cough very loudly after the initial applause dies down, so you'll know its me) Should be a great evening in NYC that night, game 7 of the World Series. Hope I make it home alive.

I'll be watching for you! The audience is pretty much heard, but not seen, on his show unfortunately. I love Jon Stewart, he IS a Living National Treasure. You can toss a rose on the set with all of our names on it, if you care to. Just don't you dare run across the set in your bloomers with a "We Love Urqhart" sign, although he'll be delighted if you do.
