If this Dem health care plan is so good, why would members of congress want to inflict fines and or jail time if you sign up for it?

There are penalties for non-participation to prevent free-riding. Some people who are low risk and have few assets (young people) will choose not to get insurance. They reason that if they do get sick, they can go to the emergency room and then tear up the bill for the tens of thousands of dollars that their care might cost. With no assests, they have nothing to lose.

But someone pays that bill. Wanna guess who? The bill insists that everyone be covered for the same reason that everyone must carry auto insurance. Or do you also think that auto insrance ought to be completely optional too?
