My reactions to Subway, McDonald's, et al
by Sovereign9
I enter such places only after 10:30 PM when a busy evening takes away my dinner-time.

I look at Subway's grim containers of gray-cast meats and explosively salted limp condiments and walk out. At Mc's, I fear the cholesterol and (probably diseased and hormoned) meat paste. But I'll drive up once a year and eat the cheesy meat-fat-paste if desperately hungry. It's like bad sex with heavy regrets.

So there! The alternatives are diners and very-late Chinese takeout or Friday's.

And I have no idea what is the article's point except to earn Gross a Spanish ham at $96 per pound. And Boar's Head roast beef is terrific.

I'm no fan either, but with a hundred billion served, they must appeal to someone.

Damn straight. Over my lifetime I'd say I'm probably over a thousand of those hundred billion. I eat my share of healthy food (thanks to a wife who loves to cook and a Whole Foods Market a block from my house), but I show no fear in the face of greasy, fatty, salty, oh-so-delicious pleasures. Notice I didn't say "guilty" pleasures---there's something downright patriotic about eating like a stereotypical American once in awhile.
