Why (pseudo)-Roastbeef?
by JonFrum

The problem with Arby's is their central product. Why roast beef and not some other sandwich? Hamburgers and hot dogs will stand on their own, and have for decades. A roast beef sandwich just don't come to the average person's mind when they think of having lunch. I've enjoyed a nice roast beef sub many times, but in the same shop I had a choice of 15-20 other sandwiches, and often pizza to boot. I think Arby's just chose a feature offering that has limited appeal at best. After that, the rest of the criticism comes into effect.

I have eaten at Arby's when I lived next door to one. It was OK, and the fries were quite good, but the Chinese buffet across the street was the same price, and much better.

If it is actually roast beef, it would be a good thing. But it's some sort of food analog roast beef...

the last time I ate at Arby's, the "meat" was unnaturally soft and mushy except for the nasty string of gristle running through it. That may have been the most natural part of the roast beef.
