Whips Confide: Congress Full of Children
by Urquhart

This, this is simply amazing. Even if you believe your potential voters are idiot children with who are easily manipulated, it's maybe not good to say so. In a publication they all read.

The House is expected to vote Saturday night on the Democrats’ health care bill, and nobody knows for sure how it will turn out.

...The phrase “herding cats” may be a cliché, but it is also a pretty good description of what it takes to secure the votes needed to pass or oppose a difficult bill. Whips and staffers say members may hold out for many reasons, from principles to personality flaws.

Way to win hearts and minds. Of course, it's even more difficult to secure votes for a disastrous and suicidal bill. And somewhere in between "principles" and "personality flaws" may be such motives as "it's badly written", "nobody can tell me what it means in a convincing manner" and "my constituents will kill me".

Moving from strength to strength:

“Sulking is a huge problem — it really, really is,” says one former GOP leadership aide. “I’d say we had at least one member per whip check who would whip problematically because they were sulking or angry about something completely unrelated.”

Unbelievable. Given the source, we can only hope this is reverse psychology. Such as one might use on children. There was one whip who came out as not a total moron in this story, however.

(Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (Ariz.) declined to talk to POLITICO for this story. “The secret to effective whipping is to not talk about whipping to the press,” said Kyl’s press secretary, Ryan Patmintra.)

I certainly trust these people to take over one sixth of the US economy in a responsible manner.

This, this is just beyond parody.

I think Hugh Grant was a pretty good Prime Minister, probably the best except of course for Maggie Thatcher. I liked the way he stood up to President Billy Bob Clinton for hitting on the chubby girl.

Jack

Funny reaction.

It's an old, almost uninteresting analysis these days to point out that even where each individual seems to have straightforward motivations in action, the overall group action (made up of those individual actions) needs some sort of further psychological explanation.

Sulking would be about right, surely, this early into the presidency. May I point out the quote comes from a "former GOP leadership aide"? The fact is, the GOP doesn't have current leadership aides to go to for quotes...... Hell - I'd be sulking too.

Obama seems to have you stuttering and choking....
Also, Winning Elections

People tend to splutter a bit when others try to force crap sandwiches down their throats.

There was one quote from a GOP aide. Surely you deeply sympathize with out parties.

But why would Politico run this story today? And why would any Democrats talk to them at all? It's counter-productive.

Fictional Presidents Suck

Dave? Geena Davis? Martin Estevez? Barack Obama?

Pitiful.

The Brits are well ahead of us in the fictional politician race.

Democrat won in NY 23 Urqie

any more lofty and esoteric predictions???

daddy's boy, Urq, now there's a real president! Oh, the stature and dignity and integrity that man had! It is going to be more fun than watching a basket of kittens watching the usual Republican antics and buffoonery today, voting against their constituents vital interests at every turn. Is that hard working, devoted to her job, legislator, Michele Bachmann coming out to the mall for a second act? -- after she gets her hair done.
Have to search around a little to find out,

but two Democrats were elected to the House this past Tuesday. Don't tell Urquhart.
"Esoteric Predictions"?
by Urquhart

Dear Lord, woman, you should have your language license revoked.

If you care to read a lot into the Republican dropping out on the weekend before, so that she garnered 5% in absentee ballots, go ahead. I'd place a little more reliance in the fact that VA and NJ both swung over 20% away from the Dems, and over 30% among Independents.

Just as a matter of perspective.

Such a Misogynist
by Urquhart

Yeah, it sucks when women appear on national television neatly coiffed. Or wearing nice suits.

Buncha phonies is what they are! Real women wouldn't do that.

What the Hell were we talking about again? Dems keeping a seat in San Francisco? I forget. Something like that.

Don't squirm Urq like a worm

I am addressing the results of NY 23, your ego is only exceeded by your depressingly obvious youth and ignorance in such maters.

Never said VA and NJ were in play, I knew better, but your insistence about NY 23 was achingly short sighted.

Enjoy your day

Again!

"achingly short sighted". Why can't the Bluerinse Brigade seem to write? (and never say "Regards", it makes you sound all Euro).

I offered a wager, which you declined. But said at the time (to Jack, I think) that the race was a toss-up. "A cluster", I believe, was another term employed.

Your assessment that VA and NJ were going to be disasters shows sturdy common sense, I think.

as your friend, I will confide something into you

I noticed that in USA many people were lied to for too many years about the nature of federal government in the best capitalist country in the world.

In the democratic capitalist country with the strong constitution and 4 equal branches of government it exist for the benefit of the people.

AGAIN.

IN THE DEMOCRATIC FREE CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC, GOVERNMENT EXISTS FOR THE PEOPLE.

And regardless of it's bureaucratic flaws, in many nationally important occasions it does it's job better then private enterprise-

like in space exploration, military affairs, health care coverage for destitute people etc....

CONTRARY , in the non-democratic/totalitarian countries with system based on non-capitalistic economy, GOVERNMENT EXISTS TO SUPPRESS ANY OPPOSITION AND SUPPORT ONLY CERTAIN CLASSES OF PEOPLE.

Why many Americans automatically assume the evilness of their democratic

(not without the flaws, sure ) government is beyond me ...
