The dumbest thing Patrick has said all year
by Lumpy_the_Great

"Or here's an idea? How about you stop using the deaths of these people as support for your argument, meaning don't project your negative feelings of your own mortality on to me?"

Said in support of his anti-vaccine propaganda against the H1N1 vaccine.

Yes, my desire to prevent the unnecessary death of other human beings through the use of an effective and proven medical method is simply me projecting my bad vibes out on the rest of the crowd. If only I could learn to be more mellow about those 5000 deaths from the swine flu, no-one else would die from the plague.

Wait a minute! Are you claiming to have read everything that Patrick has written here? If you are, and you have, I applaud your stamina. You deserve something. A gold star maybe, a shoulder to cry upon, some cyanide pills if you insist continuing your slog.
Oh goody! Is this a contest?
by Freedom Lady
I admit, this is a strong contender, but there are so many choice nuggets. We could each select our favorite, and then vote.

You're the one using these deaths in support of an argument, not me, and you're doing it again? What's the problem? Hit a sensitive chord so you post on the main thread?

"Yes, my desire to prevent the unnecessary death of other human beings through the use of an effective and proven medical method is simply me projecting my bad vibes out on the rest of the crowd."

No it wasn't desire. It was hostility towards me. And for the record, swine flu isn't proven with the current strain.

"If only I could learn to be more mellow about those 5000 deaths from the swine flu, no-one else would die from the plague."

Last I heard it was like 1000. The regular flu kills 30,000+ a year. Gee, it's a lot worse than regular flu *mocks*. In fact it gives you pig ears and makes you say "oink". Let's all be afraid, very afraid. I think you're being paranoid, no offense. You use vaccines out of superstition just like guys who wear tin foil on their head! It's funny! Cognitive dissonance at it's best!

Come on, why have you only singled out vaccines as the one and only affective measure? I don't see you advocating hand washing and not touching your face? That could be just as affective or even more so! But no, you become a media hypostasis because you're paranoid with fear! The deaths are tragic, sure, but that doesn't mean you have to start a riot my friend! Just keep it real?

Re: The dumbest thing Patrick has said all year

Oh, almost didn't catch that, you called it "the plague". Pretty fun. Just shows you're completely paranoid. No offense, but you're giving me a lot of fun with this.
That takes in some territory
by reJoinder

...since you could extract lines almost ANY of his posts and say that about them. The ones where he insistently tries to deny that JGC is an immunologist are, for me, about the bottom of that particular barrel.

But yours is good, too.

Heh heh, listen you...you never have anything much worth saying huh accept in making a pot shot here and there. But hey, thx for hanging with us Mr. Talking head!
Re: Oh goody! Is this a contest?

Yeah, we've been through this sort of thing before ad nauseum. I usually loose the popular vote because you guys usually end up fearing something or buy what the mass media tells you how to think. Look at Lumpy running around like a chicken with his head cut off? If he freaks out too much, he might start growing swine ears as one of Jason's argonauts.

"The ones where he insistently tries to deny that JGC is an immunologist are, for me, about the bottom of that particular barrel."

You guys usually complain about God and such things, but when you continually say stuff like this, it just shows you're frightened children. Deny God at all costs but by all means, believe anything JGC or the mass media tells you! And then regard my not siding with such things as the bottom of the barrel because this contrasts with yourself - a true believer. So I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel...because I just "don't believe" unlike you. Well thought out, well done!

No it wasn't desire. It was hostility towards me. And for the record, swine flu isn't proven with the current strain.

And of course, one must not be hostile toward Patrick.

Regarding the current strain, it shares some elements with swine flu, some with other forms:

Last you heard was a long time ago. Current estimates are 5000+ worldwide

The rest of your comments are just childish.

Come on, why have you only singled out vaccines as the one and only affective measure? I don't see you advocating hand washing and not touching your face? Vaccines are far and away the most effective measure against flu of any kind, given that it's a virus and that the efficacy of anti-viral treatments lags well behind prevention.

WTF "media hypostasis" is supposed to mean is anyone's guess. But since you seem to be the most hysterical person here, you're also probably the most likely to "start a riot."

If I believe him
by reJoinder

...it's because he's believable. If I call you a halfwit, it's because your posts make you sound like a halfwit.

When you can come up with information that is more plausible than what JGC or other educated posters say, I'll believe you. As yet you've failed utterly at that.

Go whine to someone else, now.

"'I KNOW you are, but what am I?""

It's good to know you have a sense of humor. *sticks tongue out*

"And of course, one must not be hostile toward Patrick."

You saying your were hostile?

"it shares some elements with swine flu, some with other forms:"

Just figuring out the similarities huh? Lol.

"The rest of your comments are just childish."

Oh, I should stick a cob-pipe in my mouth, say something more like "I agree with scholars. The runestone is a hoax. Ha ha hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa." *sound trails off and dies*

"Vaccines are far and away the most effective measure against flu of any kind,"

No it's not? The most effective measure is handwashing Sherlock. You can still get the flu after the vaccine.

"given that it's a virus and that the efficacy of anti-viral treatments lags well behind prevention."

Lol, that's not a given. That's something you made up. They don't correlate but remain separate spheres. If it was a true point of contention, health insurance would pay for preventative measures like health screenings, which they don't.

"WTF "media hypostasis" is supposed to mean is anyone's guess."

Okay, I'll help you. You're an extensional puppet and agent of the media. Happy? You go out and spread their word of hype.

"But since you seem to be the most hysterical person here, you're also probably the most likely to "start a riot."""

Gee, considering that you guys are the ones running around like a chicken with his head cut off about vaccine, that's pretty ironic and disingenious.

Isn't that like saying...

"Don't use people dying in wars as some argument against them"????

Re: If I believe him
by Patrick

"If I call you a halfwit, it's because your posts make you sound like a halfwit."

Is that adult logic or child logic? I mean, you claimed to be the adult here in the other post, in that my statements were childish. You don't think that's questionable given the above statement?

"When you can come up with information that is more plausible than what JGC or other educated posters say, I'll believe you. As yet you've failed utterly at that."

But that's a circular argument considering that you believe 'a priori'. How do I come up with information that you believe that will make you believe?? What you mean is you'll always believe in JGC at my expense.

"Go whine to someone else, now."

Does that statement somehow make you superior? Sounds to me like you're the one whining about my points of contention with JGC. Do you derive your sense of worth from him or something Igor?

Re: The dumbest thing Patrick has said all year
by Patrick
No, not an argument against "them", which is circular, but against the motive for war and/or the type of war. "Them" and "war" are two different things. The purpose of vaccines isn't to prevent death but to prevent bad health. You don't base efficacy of the vaccine in the number of deaths it prevents but on whether people get the flu or not. You guys are completely loosing it in this regard thx to the media. When will you people realize vaccines aren't magic bullets? But go get your shots in complete and utter superstition!
