What about the reverse of indie-to-pop?
by Yabels

The reverse of this phenomenon is when certain pioneers of a particular Indie sound (ahem, Weezer) have now attempted to glom on to a over-saturated pop sound. This, I feel, is infinitley worse because this means that artists who are traditionally breaking the mold with their music instead choose to dumb it down; forsaking experimentation for a desperate grasp at popularity and MP3 sales. "Timbaland knows the way to reach the top of the charts" indeed.

Also, cheers to you, Mr. Weiner for pointing out the glaring similarities of "Fireflys" to Postal Service/Death Cab's signature sound. When that song came on the radio I thought that Ben Gibbard and co. had entered into self-parody.
