Low gallonage toilets
by mjcraner

The water savings from low gallonage toilets is misleading. From a statistical standpoint based on the number of "transactions" an average family performs daily, I'm sure the water savings are substantial. A few years back I remodeled our bathrooms opting for 1.6 gpf toilets. It was immediately apparent that 1 flush from a 1.6 toilet very seldom gets the job done, and quite often it takes 3 flushes. Comparatively, among the guys, we are not alone. As an engineer at a large hotel I can tell you from a professional standpoint that 1 flush is not enough. If you really want to save water, bring back the 2.5, and train your children that 1 flush is enough.

As a side note, by whose standard is the waterless urinal "odor free"?
