Asking for a little investment advice, please
by shep

I just learned that Berkshire Hathaway is going to buy all of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. As of this morning, BNSF shares are up 29% over yesterday. Mr. Buffett plans to offer split-down (50:1) Class B shares in B-H.. or cash .. for the BNSF shares.

Is it a wise investment to accept the B-H offer for "Class B" B-H shares? I have never expected to be able to buy Berkshire Hathaway, but now...??? My position in BNSF (BNI) is not negligible, but it is also by no means a fortune.

The transactions will all be finalised sometime in late Winter or early Spring 2010, pending a favourable anti-trust ruling.

What say you? Is Mr. Buffett going to be profitable short-term as the Recession recedes??

I won't attempt to give advice on this; but I did sell my BNI this morning. There is something about Buffett that makes me want not to be his business partner, especially when he isn't about to ask me what I want to do. He is, after all, four years older than me so I am led to expect that his decisions are soon to become erratic. Besides, I owned BNI because I wanted, specifically, to own BNI. I am not as sanguine about owning whatever Buffett prefers.
