Amelia as advocate
by BelleValley1965
It would've been nice if the movie had taken perhaps a half-minute to allude to Earhart's advocacy for math and science education for girls. Her syndicated columns and magazine articles mentioned how eager young girls were to fly in an airplane. Earhart predicted that few would become pilots because schools discourage or prevented girls from taking upper-level math and science courses in high school. Also, girls were not allowed in vocational training classes, which Earhart stated would disqualify them from being airplane mechanics. These articles were written from the late 1920s through the mid-1930s.
