Who died?
by Reader Beware
That article that is linked to indicates that a previous accident was caused by lack of sleep. The Pilots having a discussion about internal company affairs, or even browsing youtube for all I care really does warrant the termination of their flying certificate. If the company wants to fire them, that is their own affair. Had I been on the flight, that was delayed to land for a couple of hours. I believe that reprimand, and perhaps a 1 month suspension would be the maximum tolerable punishment. THEY ARE HUMAN, and get distracted just like everyone of us. Can you fly, as a passenger without: Sleeping, Watching a movie, listening to some music, reading a book? You don't even have to land, or take off; your not working etc. Should we ban all these activities since based on a whim, some believe it increases safety? Where is our mercy? To ruin their careers because they cared enough (purportedly) about internal company affairs to engage in heated debate about it? This is a knee jerk reaction, and fear mongering. Driving should be nothing like flying. Using the example of Lexus developing an 'auto pilot', that should outrage you no? It isn't tested, or certified by the government...so how can it be 'safe'? What if there is a software glitch, causing a massive car pileup?

You are kidding-----tell me you are kidding!

For reasons unknown to us and insufficiently explained, two supposed highly trained and experienced professional airline pilots overflew their destination by a long damned way and in the process ignored many repeated attempts to contact them.

The plane was full of people. You know? People.

How about some mercy for the people behind the cockpit doors? The passengers and crew!

We make Captain Sully the hero of the year. And you want to retain these two after their behavior? Not likely.

It is the equivalent of two doctors going to sleep--or being deeply engrossed in the scheduling medical procedures--in the middle of an operation.

Or Homer Simpson zoned out on donuts at the safety controls of his nuclear power plant.

Put these two putzes on the luggage transfer section for the remainder of their careers. It will make an impression on others.

And it will make the flying public a little more confident.
