Amelia as an advocate
by BelleValley1965
Whether the real Amelia was "edgy" or not, she was an advocate of treating girls as the equal of boys in schools. More than once, Earhart wrote syndicated columns and magazine articles that deplored the channeling of girls away from math, science, and vocational classes. She noted the fascination of girls with aviation, and that on her promotional tours many girls asked to fly in her airplane -- only to have their mothers or fathers argue against it. Earhart also noted that girls could not attain the necessary education or training to become pilots because of the bias toward giving them "appropriate" or "proper" classes.
