Ian McKellen: Actor, Vandal, Role Model for Anti-Christians
by o_hellenbach
Not to mention all-around cool guy. Anyway, here's the story that justifies the title. It's a fun frivolous faith-based feature for a Friday.

Not to mention his first-rate Shakespearean performances: a solid King Lear, a great Macbeth, a happily wicked Richard III, and a convincingly malign Iago in Othello (all available on DVD).

Hmmm... wonder if he edits the Book of Mormon when he stays in a Marriott?
Ian McKellen as Iago!

Here's the link. This is a TV version of a stage production directed by Trevor Nunn. There are some directorial excesses and the setting is a big "why?", and it doesn't have the best sound direction, o do watch with subtitles (usually a good idea when watching Shakespeare on video anyway). McKellen is fine (mumbles a bit - keep those subtitles on!!), opera singer Willard White makes a solid and substantial Othello, and Imogen Stubbs' Desdemona is a particularly young, romantic, and highly enegertic interpretation (which I liked - the age difference between O & D is almost as important as the racial one). Enjoy!

He's being selective, of course

If I tore out all I objected to in that book, there'd be more missing than left in the binding. As it is, I prefer to ignore it.

Its presence in hotels and motels simply indicates the lengths to which Christians go to push their bizarre doctrine on others. Perhaps the world's most obnoxious religion.
