Less weight, but not so much less as one might think. Yamaha Avant Grande N3 438 pounds Steinway S (aka the Baby Grand--I don't recommend it, never played one I could stand) 540 pounds 5' 1"" Steinway O (mine, not bad) 610 pounds 5' 10 1/2" Steinway B (the biggest your piano teacher might have had, and plenty unless you are playing in Carnegie Hall or such) 760 pounds 6' 10 1/2" Steinway D (the full Monte) 990 pounds 8' 10 3/4" Grands are handier than you might think. I watched in awe as my technician removed the Steinway O from my house with not much more assistance than a small dolly. He was quite clear that my hands should remain in my pockets.
