Autism
by kuruman
Apropos of nothing on the XX factor at present, here is an MSN homepage-linked article talking about an apparent increase in autism rates. I've posted here before discussing the way health-related articles are handled with respect to gender. Autism affects 4 times as many boys as girls, but this fact is never mentioned in the article. Gender stats are always included when something is more prevalent in women. Always. Very often, it is not mentioned when the opposite is true.

Overtime, this disparity helps to create an impression of a health crisis in women; shaping public opinion and governmental funding for awareness programs etc. It is an insidious form of sexism that gets no attention.

Are you agreeing with me? I assume so as your questions would prove my point beyond a shadow of a doubt.

As an aside, the 4:1 boy to girl ratio for autism is almost the exact opposite of the ratio for osteoporosis. The latter is handled in the media, however, as if it is an exclusively female disease. Organized awareness campaigns and fundraisers cater to women exclusively.
I completely agree...

if the stats were reversed, you would see an interest...
