Funding research is the method of least statism. The problem is that it's difficult to weigh the risk and cost of global warming against the cost of the solutions to fix it. I mentally set the risk and cost of global warming somewhere higher than you (and somewhere lower than Al Gore), which is why I'd advocate some kind of carbon tax.

China, with their huge pollution problem, just might be doing our green energy R&D for us, which is too bad for those who imagined a green jobs bonanza here in the U.S. of A., but not bad at all for everyone else.

I've had to warn you about this before.

I think Jonah's arguments and style stand on their own. But you seem to have a generations-long animus.

Conservatives are in favor of a different type of government control. They're glad to let you keep your guns and (more of) your money, but they're generally not inclined to let you decide whether to smoke a doobie, to let you have an abortion, to let you marry the person you love, or to grant you all the protections of due process that their civil libertarian friends are willing to grant.

The individual nations of the Anglosphere may rise and fall, but the Empire as a whole will still be in charge, because there's no other option. Mainly because we combine free-market capitalism with a respect for the rule of law. It works, man.

I think one of you is referring to fiscal conservatives and the other is referring to social conservatives. There is a difference. Alot of fiscal conservatives are social moderates or even social liberals(in the classic sense).

But you must choose a party for whom to vote. I'm thinking you're basically Libertarian. And the biggest threat to liberty at present lies in one party alone. Which should be opposed, as it controls the country.
