Re: baltimore
by Bondsman

religiouslib,

Did you even LOOK at the graph you posted? In February Obama had about a 67% approval rating and a 20% disapproval rating. Now he has a 50% approval and 45% disapproval.

The number of people who like him dropped like a stone, and those that don't skyrocketed. Thanks for proving that other guy's point for him, LOL!

so this tattoo of yours....
by intersurfa

...you know, you can make a lot of people happy...how's about a public service announcement, in the form of a picture of the tattoo? ....and anything else...

Re: baltimore

relax bondsman,

that number has flucuated, as i pointed out, for most of the spring and summer and will continue to do so.

around 52-52% is where most presidents live.

bush was below 35% the last 2 years of his admin.

the idea that obama is dropping like a stone is simply not true.

of course he was going to fall to more reasonable levels.

There is the requirement that illegal aliens are not receiving subsidies to obtain insurance. That means that whatever organization is responsible for implementing the law would have to make a decision on how they'd insure citizenship. This is not something that would happen when you show up at a hospital. It is when you apply for coverage.

It is better to leave some things up to the people running the program. You guys are already complaining about the size of the bill. Why make it bigger with unnecessary verbage about how to do something that is required in the bill. You might have a requirement in the bill that paperwork is filled out in ink. You don't have to specify where to buy pens.

OK, so his popularity falling was a GOOD thing and all part of the plan, got it.

And you read that to mean "less liberal" in what dumb way, dummy?
We hardly need Slate to do that.
by Sawbones

Conservative talk radio has been saying essentially the exact same things for months. You talk about this like Slate is continuing to focus on the crazy uncle that the GOP locked up in the basement long ago, but this is hardly an "impuslive moment"; this is the governing mind-set of a large chunk of the party - if not its mainstream, then at least its largest and most politically-active coherent sub-group.

Slate may be aiming at a political effect in putting this article out, but if so then it is "approximately right" on the facts - the most public and recognizable voices of the Republican Party are guiding it out of the realm of respectability and into that of hysteria and histrionics. The fact that Joe Wilson has simultaneously profited from and been marginalized by his outburst is indeed an interesting story, and one that illustrates how wide a potential chasm there is within his party.

Wow. JJ you really are a knuckle head. Sure, in a hurry, Slate accidentally published an incorrectly credited photo. So what? They publish hundreds a week. But, I was curious to see what kind of nitwit would defend it so vehemently while having so obviously little knowledge about architecture. So I looked at your posts and now realize that having little knowledge doesn't stop you from posting about just about anything...over and over and over. I'll be sure to look for your posts now. And happy to defend anyone from your bloated ignorance.

baltimore aureole:
as a conservative, i cringed when joe wilson shouted "you lie" - recognizing it as an egregious breach of senate decorum every bit as banal (the banality of evil) as democrats booing bush during HIS state of the union speech . ..

wilson was "approximately right" on the facts (the bill was changed later that week to specifically preclude taxpayer sponsored medical care for illegal aliens - matching the standard set by britain and other european countries. however pelosi, kowtowing to her huge illegal alien population, is working to reintroduce free health care for illegals)

Wrong; the bill only omitted a specific measure for citizenship verification. Homeland Security and the USCIS are responsible for this and have done a piss-poor job of putting any efficient system in place for healthcare facilities over the past eight (Republican-led) years. Even with such a system, current EMTALA statutes would still supercede refusals for emergency care.

As far as support for a 1.2 trillion dollar investment goes, if the American public was willing to pony up roughly the same amount of money to invest in the nation-building non-terrorist fighting fiasco that was the Iraq "War," why wouldn't they spend a similar amount to benefit themselves and their loved ones, especially in the face of health care costs that escalate 6 times the rate of inflation?

Republicans to attack their base?
by okakura

Four-in-ten Hispanic adults living in the United States who are not citizens or legal permanent residents already have health insurance. (<link>)

GOP: Better stay after those small businessmen who keep employing them and providing them medical insurance.
