Palin complaint that the Obama children are cosseted while hers are trashed and violated is true. Can you imagine what the far left would have to say if someone made a similar joke about Mrs. Obama being slutty. I am pretty open minded and I like David Letterman, but I think he crossed the line with the joke.

In reality, we know far more about Obama's mother and her insance behaviour than we know about Palin's daughters.

Can you imagine what the far right (the far left is imaginary - the far right is not) would have to say if Obama went on stage with his underage pregnant daughter and introduced the thug that knocked her up?

I am pretty realistically minded and I like David Letterman too, but I think he would have been relentless if Obama had let his child have sex under his roof.

I think i is about time for hollywood and everyone else in the country that finds gross misuse and inadequate language that there are still a whole lot of us out here that have been tolerating this abuse much much to long, why not clean it up ---- have two versions if you gotta have filthe then hav it for yourselves but give those that chose class and decent language a little of our own---

i believe the name used in the above by Letterman - was not even allowed 20 years ago on televison, -- he should be sorry -- wonder what his reaction would be to call his wife, daughter, granddaughter or mother, or even his grandmother such a name --but hey --only in reference! Boy would his ancesters be proud of him!?! When did society in America start allowing street talk into schools and entertainment?

Was Ann Soetoro a celebrity? No? Can you name anyone that Letterman makes jokes about that are not celebrities? No?

Letterman was not making fun of Bristol because she was a Republican - you might be quick to point out that Bristol is not actually a Republican - he was making fun of her because she is a celebrity. If they didn't go with the Bristol joke, I am sure his staff would have done a Madonna joke or a Paris Hilton joke instead.

Letterman should lose his job just as imus did! He's a crancky old corny joker which is almost never funny and most of his political jokes are still 6 months later on bush and cheney! have you heard a joke from him yet on Obama or any of his policies?! That was in reference to The gentleman who pointed out how sad, that comedians have to stoop this low to make fun of innocent people. Sarah Palin has never done a single thing to any of you or anyone else; why the hatred? I guess I'll never understand why people have to denigrate themselves to try and make a point, when it's pretty obvious Mrs. Palin is a decent woman and should not have to reply to such an ogerious individual like Letterman!

I think most of you are missing the whole point of Letterman's comments. First of all, they were not "jokes". There was nothing funny about them. They were very personal in nature and meant to be hurtful and elicit anger.

The first comment about Sarah's appearance was merely a hateful personal opinion meant to degrade her on a very personal level.

The comment about her daughter being "knocked up" was simply a mean spirited, immature, disgusting thing to say regardless who it was about. This is the kind of foul mouthed banter I would expect to hear in a bar room by some heathen tanked up on cheap beer, not on a supposedly respectable comedy show.

Now if it's OK for Letterman to attack someone's elses unfortunate situation on National Television, then why is it that his own illigitimate son, who's mother he knocked up and never bothered to marry, off limits to national scrutiny?

This whole Letterman foul mouth thing isn't about who won or who lost. It's not about Sigmund Freud or how old the daughter was that he was talking about,or that Sarah wears make up and skirts. Most women do.

What it is is a glaring display of his own abhorrent lack of morral character, an immature disregard for social ethics, a childish display of selfish disrespect and a total lack of dignity, all in the name of ratings.

It's sad to watch a man with so much talent and potential destroy himself so thoroughly in front of the whole nation and much of the world because of his obvious leftist political persuasion and uncontrollable hatred of anybody who opposes the Obama policies.

Sure, his ratings may have spiked temporarily because many people tuned in just to see what the "idiot" is going to say next. But he may have just handed that elusive #1 spot to Conan by using such poor judgement by draging tired old mud slinging politics into his show.
