Yes, I have always believed so.
But, the mirror, most of us went through that strange period of guilt and confusion and the realization of our imperfections etc,in our pre or early teens, narcissism being a part of the guilt or perhaps more correctly, questioning, especially, perhaps, those who had a decent enough education to have been taught about the Greeks. It is one of those things that I have now and then briefly thought about but for what and why I have never decided so never came to any conclusion :-)
If, as it was for many thousands of years by the most civilized ones of the time, thought that we are the face of God ( because we all come from God, that collectively we are God, alone we are only a part of 'its' face ) What did the first who saw their image see ? the image of God ? Narcissus sin was that he fell physically in love with that image. ...........
The question is what are we really looking for when we look into our mirrors ? If it is, do I look respectable, or not, as the case may be :-) We are the in danger of falsifying, the face of God ) .... Yer we know all this but .......its interesting and funny and sad xxxxx
An honest self portrait or self images is not an easy thing to accomplish is it ? Should we even try ? Perhaps we are best not looking too much, I can put my red red lipstick on perfectly with out looking in the mirror, after years of practice, but I cannot get that smudge off my nose without either looking or without help ? Nor did I know it was there with out looking or being told :)
